In 2021, 12-year-old Isabella DiFiore became aware of the Dove House Advocacy Center where children are brought to be interviewed and examined when sexual assault is suspected. Learning the children come empty handed, she started her backpack program to provide needed items such as soft blanket to use when they are examined, a stress/quiet toy to hold when being interviewed, toothbrush/toothpaste, crayons, coloring book, etc. There are about 20 items in each backpack.
With the help of many donations and groups like the Statesville Woman’s Club, she donated over 225 backpacks in 2022. SWC members donated and stuffed backpacks during October 2022, 20 backpacks were delivered to the Dove House in November.
